A 40 foot long T Rex skeleton becomes the most expensive fossil selling for $30.8 million.

An anonymous buyer, during a Christie's auction in New York, breaks the record for the most expensive dinosaur fossil ever sold. This T Rex fossil, named Stan, is one of the best preserved T Rex skeletons in the world.

It is named after the amateur paleontologist, Stan Sacrison, who discovered it in South Dakota in 1987. Based on its 40 ft length and 13 ft height it is estimated to have weighed nearly 8 tons - the weight of two adult elephants.
