From the Floor to the Canopy Explore the Layers of the Forest- A week long after school virtual adventure

Monday, March 28, 2022 - 4:00pm to Friday, April 1, 2022 - 5:15pm
Location:
Natural History Museum, Cal Poly Humboldt Online
Who lives in the forest? Kids aged 7 - 12 years old will explore the layers of different forested ecosystems from the critters that live in the duff to the nests and cavities in the canopy. The emphasis will be on coast redwoods as kids explore the world of the plants and animals that inhabit our local forest types. Highlighted groups will include slugs, salamanders, and rodents, along with a variety of plant groups from the trees to the ferns. Activities include plant identification, dissecting owl pellets, interactive games, germinating seeds, building nests, and identifying animals by the signs they leave behind including identifying some local birds by sound.  Sessions will be held daily on Zoom from 4:00pm - 5:15pm, with additional optional activities provided for students to do independently.

Pre-registration is required so we can mail each participant a packet full of hands-on materials we will be using during the online session.  We will also send the Zoom link near the beginning of the program.

Price: $25 or $20 for NHM members
